New England Firearms Handi-Rifle Review

Handi Rifle

I am an avid deer hunter and live in southern Mississippi. In this state, they changed the laws that define a primitive weapon. Under the new ruling, any single shot, breech-loading rifle with an exposed hammer and a minimum caliber size will qualify as a primitive weapon. This gives hunters the option to hunt a few more weeks of the season without having to bother with messy black powder muzzle loading rifles. Ever since this regulation went into effect, Handi-Rifles from New England Firearms have been flying off the shelves.

You can read the full regulation at the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website.

I have really enjoyed shooting and hunting my with Handi-Rifle and look forward to using it again this year. If you want to know more about them, you can read my review of the .45/70 Handi-Rifle that I wrote for AssociatedContent.com.

Hornady ammoFor the best performance from your Handi-Rifle, I highly recommend that you get Hornady brand ammo. It kicks like a mule, but delivers supreme velocity and range as compared to standard .45/70 ammo. If you are using your Handi-Rilfe to hunt, then Hornady is the best way to go. I know plenty of people who swear by the stuff, and I couldn't believe the difference that it made the first time I shot it. If the kick is too much for you to handle, you can get an upgraded recoil pad from Limbsaver to help soften the blow.

Amazon.com has a few items for sale that you can use to accessorize your Handi-Rifle. These items includes the Weaver #82 Mount for adding a scope, plus a great Hornady Ammunition Box. The Hornady brand ammunition is not hard to find, but you can always order it from Cabelas.com if you are having trouble locating some where you live.
