Stephen Lawhead's King Raven Trilogy
Robin Hood is reborn in this new series! Check out this trilogy for a Robin Hood story unlike any you've read before. It's brilliant.
Hood - Book One
For this book, the author did a lot of research into the origins of the Robin Hood story, and he best determined that it originated in Wales sometime after the first millennium. He chose to set this book Wales due to the well-documented ferocity of the Welsh people, plus it makes a proper setting given the political climate of the time. It is based around the Norman invasions of the 11th century.
Scarlet - Book Two
I found this book to be an entertaining read that goes by very quickly. It has a lot of chapters and white space, so the book is obviously a bit shorter than Hood. Even so, it works very well in terms of character development. Although Will Scarlet is the title character, he isn’t really the main character here. The primary purpose of this book is to show how poorly the people were being treated by the upper class, and Scarlet is the vessel through which the story is told.
Tuck - Book Three
Tuck, the clergyman probably best known as Friar Tuck, but not called such in this book, is sort of the center of this story. Robin Hood and Will Scarlet are also present through much of it, while Tuck remains a supporting character in the whole thing. Nevertheless, Tuck's importance to the storyline is quite heavy, and the story is told mainly from his viewpoint. He is portrayed as the lovable and loyal drunk that isn't afraid to fight, but always asks for God's blessing first.
